The 88-year-old Holocaust denier Ursula Haverbeck has again been convicted for incitement. Whether she really has to go to prison is open.

The district court Verden in Lower Saxony has imposed a sentence of two and a half years against the Holocaust denier Ursula Haverbeck. The 88-year-old hasn’t shown any discernment, explicitly denies the Holocaust and denies it against better knowledge, said Judge Christoph Neelsen in the verdict.

A court in Germany has once more postponed the appeal of octogenarian Ursula Haverbeck, who has multiple convictions for Holocaust denial. Haverbeck has been handed several jail terms, but has so far avoided prison.

Ursula Haverbeck, often dubbed the "Nazi Grandma" in the German press, has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for incitement of racial hatred. Haverbeck has been handed several jail terms but has yet to be jailed.

A German court in Detmold has sentenced Holocaust denier Ursula Haverbeck to 14 months in prison, after the 89-year-old woman lost her appeal to a prior conviction on Tuesday. However, four months were shaved off her original conviction of 18 months. Prosecutors wanted the sentence upheld, Haverbeck's lawyers were seeking exoneration.

The Detmold court had initially sentenced Haverbeck to eight months imprisonment in September 2016, after she sent a letter to the town's mayor, Rainer Heller, claiming that Auschwitz was not a concentration camp.

An 89-year-old woman, dubbed the "Nazi grandma" by German media, lost her appeal Tuesday against a two-year jail term for Holocaust denial.

Ursula Haverbeck was sentenced in August on charges of incitement relating to her assertion that Auschwitz was a work camp and was never used for mass extermination.

Her appeal was rejected by a regional court in Celle in the state of Lower Saxony, which ruled that the judgement by the state court in Verden at the end of August last year was legally sound and should be implemented.

The Verden court found Haverbeck guilty of incitement in eight cases, sentencing her to two years without suspension.

Haverbeck has been convicted of incitement several times. The German authorities prosecute Holocaust denial on the basis of a 1985 law and its many revisions banning incitement.
